Color block taping success! I’m glad I decided to give tape another try, but when I saw this post over on Chalkboard Nails, I immediately thought of Mary Kay’s spring line nail colors and had to give it a try, so thanks for the inspiration, Sarah! She has a whole board over on Pinterest devoted to tape manicures, by the way. Check it out here.
This may be the last time I do truly summery looking nails for the season - I can’t believe it’s September already!! This design reminds me of a beach ball, though, and makes me want to go play in the water somewhere. Of course, it’s still busting 90 out here in muggy Alabama, so it hardly feels like fall yet so we shall see.
Base Coat: OPI Matte Nail Envy Nail Strengthener
Primary Base Color: Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear Nail Color in Mellow Yellow
Secondary Base Color: Mary Kay Nail Lacquer in Pink Bamboo
Tertiary Base Color: Mary Kay Nail Lacquer in Blue Lotus
Top Coat: Sally Hansen Dries Instantly

Ha! I think I’ve discovered the trick to using tape for my manis. Patience. In extreme quantities - like over the period of days, not minutes or even hours. Okay, maybe hours if I had the time to devote to doing this sort of thing more than once a day. Regardless, what I was doing wrong before was not letting the polish completely cure. Oh, it was dry to the touch, but it has to be COMPLETELY dry to not get peeled up with the tape.

Flower #2
Also crocheted in limited lighting as I waited until after dinner last night to make this one. I thought I’d try a different thread and although it’s a little bit tinier than my regular flowers, I still think I like it. The pink is a delightful shade and the flower is really almost too soft, but we’ll see how it works!
My mother gave me three skeins of this thread, one pink and two shades of purple, and I have absolutely no idea where she got it. It’s labeled rather simply and I haven’t had any luck finding it online, so if anyone recognizes it, let me know!
The only thing I’ve discovered about it is that it appears to be Hungarian (it’s labeled Nagyatádi Gyár).

I’ve been working on another new blanket these past few days. This one is a tribute of sorts to a very special little one who changed my life. I think about her every day but it’s time to let go… At least as best I can. My hope is that this blanket and the pattern as made by others with love and care will warm and beautify the lives of many other little girls and their mothers.
